WIRELESS NEWS: RIM: BlackBerry will not shut down their service

Daily Telecom News By Luis Galarza

Daily Telecommunication News.- Research In Motion Chairman and co-CEO James L. Balsillie said the company has a "software workaround" in place to keep BlackBerry's U.S. service running even if it is ordered to end service by the judge presiding over its patent dispute with NTP. Balsillie also said the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has signaled that it will eventually reject all of NTP's wireless e-mail patents, which are the focal point of the case. NTP co-founder Donald E. Stout said NTP's case would not be undermined even if the patent office were to rule against it, and added that the judge could still issue an injunction. As you see some patents are closing the road of development and products or services improvement, just like Amazon.com try to do before with their "One Click" Purchase tool, and now Google is joining the parade, with their intent of patenting their "RSS Ad Delivery Service". DAILY TELECOM NEWS: USA Storms puts telecoms to the test

Daily Telecom News By Luis Galarza

BellSouth estimated that 1.1 million of its lines were out in the region covering New Orleans and the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and that repairs would cost $400 million to $600 million. The carrier has made progress in restoring service since the last storm hit the state, when 1.75 million lines were dead. A major logistical challenge is a lack of electricity, plus most of the wireless antenas were destroy or damage during the storms.

Lack of power a major cause for phone networks' failure. Fixed-line and wireless communications networks broke down in the wake of Hurricane Katrina after power generators ran out of juice.

Satellite phones come through in a pinch: Satellite phones proved to be a vital mode of communication in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, USA TODAY reports.

After all, look like telecoms did a good job in providing the necesary help to the cause. For more information about this topic go to:
